Lower Limb Course
Programme Overview
With the medical advancements in endovascular treatment of peripheral vascular disease, it has become evident that there is a growing need for specialized training in this field. This one and a half days educational course has been designed to provide an introductory, but complete, overview of all fundamental skills and medical devices required for the treatment of Illiac & SFA disease.
A series of didactic sessions will be conducted where participants will receive thorough review on topics such as patient assessment, screening and indications, device options, procedures and techniques as well as identification and treatment of potential complications. There will also be sessions conducted with the MENTICE simulator, a state of the art simulated training model, which will allow participants an opportunity to gain some hands-on experience. Time will be allocated for questions and case discussions with the facilitator.
Teaching Methods
Upon the completion of educational activity, the interventionalist should be able to:
- Define the treatment options available for iliac and SFA disease.
- Compare the medical, surgical and endovascular treatments, as well as the benefits and risks for the patient.
- Have a good understanding on the devices and equipments available for lower limb procedures.
- Outline the procedures and techniques of iliac and SFA angioplasty/stenting.
- Discuss the prevention, identification and treatment of potential complications.
Audience
Interventionalist who:
- Has been working in the capacity of a consultant/senior clinical specialist for a minimum of 3 years
- Performs fifty PTCA/PTA per year
- Has access to perform Lower limb angioplasty in their respective hospitals upon completion of the course
